The story

Lending clothes or accessories can be generous and fun, but a little clarity helps preserve the pleasure. Talk about when the item is needed back and how it should be cared for before it leaves the house.

It is fine to keep some things off the lending list. A sentimental object, a delicate fabric or something you use often may be easier to enjoy without sharing. A friendly boundary does not cancel a friendship.

Return borrowed pieces promptly and mention any problem honestly. The care you give the exchange matters more than the outfit it helped create.
