A Welcoming Home Does Not Have to Be Finished

An invitation can come before the matching chairs.

The story

Hosting can start to look like a project with an impossible finishing date. The chairs need replacing, the room needs painting, and the table never quite looks ready. Meanwhile, the invitation remains unsent.

A modest plan can make the first gathering easier. Invite a couple of friends for tea, clear a place to sit and choose food that requires little preparation. Tell people what to expect so the occasion does not carry unnecessary formality.

A welcoming room is a room that makes space for its guests. Good lighting, an accessible seat and an unhurried conversation matter more than a coordinated reveal. The home can continue changing after people have enjoyed being there.
